Thursday, August 30, 2007 : Doing something now before it gets worst
China is experiencing intense economic growth as reflected in the numerous buildings peppered across the country. In fact, many major cities like Beijing and Shanghai are expanding at the cost of the environment.
China has long been slammed for producing dangerous levels of pollution. The number of factories of big companies and cars on the roads have put a toll even on its people. Rivers are poisoned by pollutants from factories, air quality is way below acceptable levels and the residents in these cities have a long way to go to being 'green'.
As the 2008 Olympics draws near, Beijing is frantically polishing its image- made worse recently by reports of dangerous levels of lead in China-made toys - by trying to cut down on pollution from cars. Its main aim is to make sure that the Olympics goes on smoothly since the Olympic Committee have warned that some events will have to be postponed due to the poor air conditions.

1. Whether such a move by the Chinese government will prove to be effective.
More importantly, whether such efforts by the government to reduce pollution will continue to stay even after the Olympics.
2. Is Singapore doing enough?
